Jesse Thorn is the host and producer of The Sound of Young America and Jordan, Jesse, Go!. He founded The Sound of Young America in 2000, while a student at the University of California at Santa Cruz. In 2007, the show began to be distributed by Public Radio International, making Jesse the youngest national host in public radio history.

In this talk, Jesse focuses on how he turned his college radio show into an independent media powerhouse, and how 12 other people, many of them his friends and colleagues, exemplify the qualities you need to make your independent artistic and career aspirations a reality in the Internet age.

In addition to his work at MaximumFun.org, he hosts and helps produce Put This On, a video series and blog about men's style. He also hosts The Grid, a culture recommendation program on IFC.
