National Library Week Event: Over the Rainbow - Stuart Johnson Discusses The Music of Harold Arlen

Tuesday April 12, 2011: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Pittsfield Branch: Program Room

Harold Arlen is probably the least known of all the great song writers of the 20th Century, yet he composed some of the greatest songs ever written! From Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive to Over The Rainbow and Stormy Weather, to One For My Baby and I've Got The World On A String, his songs are prominent in the discographies of all major artists.

Join us as music expert Stuart Johnson returns with an evening devoted to Arlen, featuring many colorful slides of songs performed by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Billy Eckstine, Lena Horne, Judy Garland and more. A member of the Michigan Jazz Record Collectors, Johnson has given jazz related presentations at numerous libraries, colleges and organizations including the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors Convention.
