Microsoft Word Basics Session 1

This class consists of two sessions .

Participants will be introduced to such features as highlighting, cutting and pasting and grammar check, and saving to disk. Prior computer and mouse skill experience is needed. Session two will be offered Wednesday, September 10.

Michigan Reads! An Evening with Author Nancy Shaw

Tuesday September 9, 2008: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

'Raccoon Tune,' Nancy Shaw's delightful story of a family of raccoons is the book chosen for this year's Michigan Reads! Nancy will read from the story, and then talk about the importance of early literacy and the Michigan Reads! program. Children will also have an opportunity to make a raccoon craft. Books will be for sale courtesy of Nicola's Books.

Nancy Shaw is the author of the popular 'Sheep in a Jeep' and its sequels. The Michigan Reads! program seeks to highlight the importance of reading and sharing books with children, especially toddlers through early elementary, and to recognize the vital role of libraries which provide access to quality books, programs and services to children and families that lay the foundation for reading and school success.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

Advanced Microsoft Word Session 1

World Wide Web Tools Session 1

This class allows participants to become acquainted with the fundamentals of using the World Wide Web. Participants will learn how to using browsing software, search engines and other Internet features. Part 2 will be offered Friday Sept.19. Register online or call 327.4560.

Easy Knits with Expert Jillian Moreno

Knitters of all levels are welcome to come learn from knitting expert Jillian Moreno. Jillian will demo stitches and share patterns for scarves, mittens and hats. Yarn will be supplied -- bring needles if you have them.

Jillian Moreno is the author of "Big Girl Knits" and "More Big Girl Knits." She was formerly marketing director with Interweave Press, and helped launch magazines like Interweave Knits, Beadwork, and Natural Home Magazine. She is also the catalyst for Knitty.com and a frequent contributor.

World Wide Web Tools Lab

The World Wide Web Tools lab is for anyone who needs help using web browsing tools or features and has questions. Labs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited.

Improv for Teens and Adults with Improvisation Expert Sandy Ryder

Monday September 22, 2008: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

Whether you're an improv beginner or expert, learn some new techniques at this special workshop. Sandy Ryder has been a professional storyteller, actor, director, and teacher in the Ann Arbor community for 35 years. She is co-founder and co-artistic director of Wild Swan Theater. Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move!

Many of the theater exercises used for this workshop were developed for "Second City," one of the most famous improvisational theaters in the country. Discover what it means to "be in the moment," connecting with your fellow "players," really listening, magnifying your senses, and most of all, having a great time surprising yourself!
