Ann Arbor Women Artists, founded in 1951, is a non-profit organization of approximately 230 artists, beginning to professional, of both genders. The purpose of the AAWA is to stimulate creative expression and sharing among its members. Each calendar year the AAWA holds two or three juried shows. A juror is invited to select from a large group of submissions a final show that is a reflection of the body of work produced by the membership.
The juror for the AAWA 2010 Spring Exhibition is Brooks Harris Stevens. Brooks is a fiber artist and an art professor at Eastern Michigan University. She received her BFA from the Svannah College of Art and Design, and her MFA from East Carolina University.
Imaginary Spaces: Painting the Abstract by Diane Aronoff
Now through April 29, 2010 -- Malletts Creek Branch: Exhibits
Diane Aronoff has been experimenting in the medium of painting for several years. Primarily self-taught, her interests are design, composition, color, texture and the abstract synthesis of those visual elements. An artist friend once suggested that Diane keep in mind the "three I's": Inspiration, Imitation and Innovation. Diane's challenge of innovation has been to free herself to realize the visions of her imagination. Her work in this display reflects that journey.
In August 1999, Diane Aronoff had her first solo exhibit at the Ann Arbor District Library. Soon after she began applying to art fairs; she has been exhibiting nationally ever since.
