Interconnectedness: The Art of Simone DeSousa

Now through July 19, 2008 -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room Exhibit and 3rd Floor Exhibit

Brazilian-born painter Simone DeSousa deconstructs elements to create dynamic relationships that reveal the essence of moments and insights. Through intricate layering, addition, subtraction, or simply allowing materials to show through, Simone’s painting process is based on an evolving practice of deep observation and inclusion of each moment. Her work is an invitation to engage in the subtle beauty of the interconnectedness of the elements that surface in everyday processes.

Simone has shown extensively in the Detroit area, as well as across the country, including New York and San Francisco. Her work is part of private and corporate collections, including the University of Michigan and Compuware Headquarters. She is co-founder of the Salt-Mine Studio, a Detroit-based multidisciplinary art studio housing painting, sculpture, and design since 1998.

A related, interactive program for youth in grades K – 5 will be offered by the docents of the Kelsey Museum on Saturday, June 7 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm and Thurs., July 10 from 2 - 3:30 pm in the Downtown Library multi-purpose room. Check aadl.org Events for description.
