Make Your Own Bubble Magnets

This event is intended for adults and teens (grade 6 and up)

Cut out pictures from magazines and comic books, then glue flat glass marbles on them to magnify the image. Attach a magnet to the back and you have cool, useful decorations for metal surfaces in households, dorm rooms, and offices! You can even make a series of magnets based on your favorite book or movie.

Mardi Gras Masks

Amigurumi Crochet Happy Fun!

Looking for a seriously fun and unique craft obsession?

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed toys. Local crafter Beth Battey will teach you how to make your own cute amigurumi octopus. Beginners with lots of patience are welcome to give it a try, but previous crochet experience is recommended. Beth will be teaching a Beginning Crochet class on Saturday, January 10, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Pittsfield Branch. A “crochet cam” will be set up for projection of instructions on the big wall! All supplies will be provided.

Hinamatsuri Paper Craft

This event is intended for grades 3 - 8

Hinamatsuri – also known as Girl’s Day or Doll’s Day – is celebrated annually on March 3 in Japan. It’s a day to wish good health and happiness to young girls everywhere!

Learn about this special day, and make kokeshi-style and shiori ningyo-style dolls out of colorful paper and washi tape.

Kokeshi are wooden dolls of different shapes, and shiori ningyo are “bookmark dolls,”often made of washi.
