Kerrytown BookFest Exhibit Reception

Join us for a pre-BookFest reception for the upcoming 13th annual Kerrytown BookFest!

the reception will feature the grand opening of The Art Of The Book, Kerrytown BookFest’s Exhibit at the Library which showcases entries from the BookFest’s 8th annual Book Cover Design contest for high school students. The contest, open to all Michigan High School students, asks the students to reimagine a cover for a chosen book and give a visual interpretation to the written word. The contest winners will be announced at the reception. This year’s book is My Last Kiss, a young adult novel by Bethany Neal. Over 100 entries were judged by Bethany Neal, author; Paula Newcombe, graphic designer for the University of Michigan Press; and Melissa Weisberg, Macmillan Publishing Company representative.

Robin Agnew, Kerrytown BookFest President and owner of Aunt Agatha’s bookstore, who will present an overview of the exhibit and the book design contest. Deborah Gabrion will play the harp to accompany the celebration, and refreshments will be served.

The Kerrytown BookFest, which will be held on Sunday, September 13, is an event celebrating those who create books and those who read them. The primary goal is to highlight the area’s rich heritage in the book and printing arts while showcasing local and regional individuals, businesses, and organizations. Since 2003, the BookFest has been growing, sharing, and discovering more and more about the rich book culture in this region.

Emerging Writers: Writing & Review Meetup

Thursday September 24, 2015: 7:00 pm to 8:45 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

This event is intended for adults and teens grade 6 and up.

This is a monthly meetup that welcomes all writers to ask questions, connect with other writers, or simply have a dedicated time and place to work on their projects.

Local authors Lara Zielin and Margaret Alex Kourvo will be on hand to offer encouragement, answer questions, and point writers to resources.

These open houses complement the Emerging Writers Workshops. These events feature perspectives from both traditional publishing and indie publishing and considerations of fiction and non-fiction writing.

Crafty Animal Bookmarks!

This event is intended for youth in grades K-5.

May the arts be with you! Celebrate the 4th annual Star Wars Reads Day with us by making some out-of-this-galaxy Star Wars crafts. Costumes encouraged!
