Regarding: parking

Patron Comment: Do something about parking! We've waited long enough! I can't even DROP OFF books. Why isn't the book drop off "drive thru?"

Patron Comment: I have visited/used library systems throughout this country and others. I find your staff, selection and service far above most. Keep up the good work!

Regarding: collections

Patron Comment: You have 3 copies of artists - Avedon, etc. and 3 copies of Chihuly (who the hell needs him?) but not a single CD of Rembrandt, Henry Moore, etc. Who's doing the ordering??

Regarding: noise

Patron Comment: 2/7/07 Lately, several times per week on weekdays, large groups of people come into the 2nd floor computer room and use it as a meeting/conversation or gathering point. Many of these are of school age... The amount of noise and distraction is too great to read or do computer work and the staff seems very reluctant to control the situation. When I asked the groups to lower the noise level on 2/7/07 I was cursed at and had my chair deliberately bumped by 2 different people who then laughed about it. Next time I will consider this as an assault and will call the city police to intervene.

Regarding: computers

Patron Comment: Update the browser or firewalls on the internet-ready computers to enable people to use the free TurboTax to file their taxes.

AADL Reply: Thanks for contacting us. We were briefly stuck with this problem too; however, we've discovered that at the bottom of the page that says 'this browser and/or OS are not compatible' there is a continue button. You can just click that and turbotax works just fine. We're running fully supported browsers; the problem is that we run an uncommon server OS that intuit does not correctly detect. Thanks for your patience, and please let us know if you have any further questions or trouble. Eli Neiburger AADL Tech Manager

Regarding: customer service

Patron Comment: I think Ann Arbor Library could do this (see link below) to generate more $money - passport processing for $37/passport. It would be great having a ctr which is closer than Chicago, where we have to go now. A library in Orange Cty is doing it. For the rest of the story, go to: http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1583819.php

AADL Reply: Thank you for sending us the information about passport service offered by the Mission Viejo Library in California. While we know that passport applications here are available at city/township clerk offices and post offices, we were not aware that a public library in the United States offered passport processing. Thank you for taking the time to contact us with this information and your suggestion for our consideration.

Regarding: exhibits/displays

Patron Comment: Dear Librarians, My name is XXX. By profession, I am a poet, a painter and a teacher currently working in Ann Arbor. I am writing to you to inquire about the possibility for exhibiting my drawings at the library. I already have a good number of interesting pieces which are ready for exhibition. Please let me know how I should go about to ask for permission to have this done at your library. Thank you so much. Sincerely,

AADL Reply: Thank you for your interest in exhibiting your artwork at the AADL. Our exhibits application is available online at: http://www.aadl.org/files/ExhibitApplicationForm.pdf. We have a staff group that reviews the applications and sets the schedule. Due to the demand, the schedule is usually planned 6-9 months in advance. Exhibits throughout the system are currently booked through the end of August 2007. If you have any questions regarding the application process or exhbits at the Library, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Sincerely, Terry Soave (734) 327-8327 soavet@aadl.org

Type: request and renewals
Regarding: - NONE SELECTED -

Patron Comment: I have a melcat item to renew, if you can. I went to the website but was not sure how it works. Are you able to renew this ILL book for me? If you are unable to renew it, please let me know so I can return it on time. Thanks for all your help!

AADL Reply: MeL books are actually renewable from our website just like books you've borrowed from AADL. Simply go to your online account and check the box in front of the book title in your checked out list. Click on the button to renew below the list. Check the new due date after the renewal has been completed. If you did not get a new due date the item was not renewable for some reason. You can use the 'contact us' link to find out why or call 327-4219 during our regular business hours. If there is not a box in front of the title the book is not renewable. This may mean that the lending library wants it back for one of their patrons or it may mean that you have already renewed it the one allowed time. MeL books that are overdue are also not renewable. I hope this is helpful. Please ask if you have further questions. Thanks for using aadl.org. Diane Dahlem Circulation Manager
