Patron Comment: I'm SO GLAD the TV monitor at the circulation desk is no longer playing commercial television! It's much more peaceful.

Patron Comment: My wireless card was able to find the AADL network & connect, HOWEVER at your log-in page, I used the guest # I was given. After entering this number, & agreeing to all rules & regs, the screen notified me it could take up to 60 secs to approve me & let me in. 2 min. later, I was still waiting, so I logged off my wireless connection. Thanks for anything you can do to make the system work better.

Patron Comment: I thought that the library computer area was supposed to be QUIET. Please think about rules regarding cell phones, and other ways of decreasing noise.

Patron Comment: Tell security persons to: MOVE BACK LARGE PLANTS so patrons are not crowded in cafe (2nd floor) & (2) SUBTLE BEGGARS? Who sit without reading nor buying for more than 20 min 'roughly' during mild-weather.

Patron Comment: I just found out that the Organic Gardening Magazine was Cancelled at the Mallots creek branch- someone decided you only need get it at the main library. It is a very popular magazine that would get checked out a lot- so why have you taken it away from us? I cannot request it online since it is a magazine. I am pretty annoyed by this. It seems to me that the library has lost track of what a library is foremost- a place to check out reading material. I don't care if you build big fancy buildings and put in 30 of the most up to date computers available, but I do care if you do not have a good selection of reading materials. Please rectify this problem - Honestly,I am pretty annoyed by this- who made this decision and whom may I address my concern to above that individual. Response to AADL reply: Thank you very much- I will be sure to read every one and I may ask for help to request titles now. I was just shocked at the time because I knew it was always checked out when I wanted it, so it seemed popular. I cannot afford to get my own subscription as it is a pricey magazine, but my husband and I find the information very helpful for our gardening. I think you will find it will be utilized a lot. I know you are a very good library and I enjoy your services very much. Your quick response is impressive and thoughtful.

AADL Reply: Comments/complaints/suggestions all come directly into my email box. I will look into this matter for you and get back to you later this week. Thank you for bringing your concern to my attention. Josie Parker Director Follow-up: I am sorry that our decision to eliminate a magazine title from a branch collection in December 2003 has had such a negative effect on your impression of the AADL's relevance to its patrons. Please realize that circulating materials as a primary mission is acknowledged by the staff, administration and governing board of the library in our strategic plan and collection management practices. If our record breaking circulation statistics can be considered an indicator (we will surpass the 3 million mark this year) we seem to be successful most of the time. We add and drop periodical titles on an annual basis, and you will be happy to know that the decision to add ORGANIC GARDENING back to our subsciption list has been made and you will see it on the shelves in all our branches in January. While you cannot request magazine titles online now, we hope to remedy that with the launch of a new catalog in July. In the meantime, any staff person will be happy to assist you with a call to Downtown to request a title be sent to Malletts Creek, or you can call the Periodicals Desk yourself. The number is 327-4555. Again, I apologize that we have dissapointed you, but hopefully our future actions will make the Library more relevant for you.

Patron Comment: The carpeted doorways at the children's area contains a slanted "non-step" into and out of the area. Upon exiting, the slant is upwards and on one of the 2 doorways there is no warning whatever and on the other there is a tape across the carpet on the slant but it is hardly visible because it blends too well with the carpet. I had rubber soled shoes on and tripped and nearly fell when exiting the children's area. Please put a neon green or yellow strip on each slant. I mentioned this to "XXXXX" and she just "Brushed" me off. May 25th patron follow-up: THank you for putting the tape on the carpeted "ramps" at West Branch. It works!

AADL Reply: Thank you for the customer service card that you recently sent concerning our West Branch location and the uneven height of the floor between the Children and Adult areas. Im sorry that you stumbled and almost fell. I have asked our maintenance department to apply a piece of high visibility, yellow warning tape to the floor in that area.

Patron Comment: My suggestion is that the email notifications regarding "due dates" are sent prior to when they are due. This has been the case for a very long time. It has definitely been the case since the library quit stamping the due dates on cards. I was shocked this week to receive multiple "overdue" notices. Response to AADL reply: Thank you for responding to my "suggestion." I did go in to pay my fines but the librarian waved my fees. She asked me if I had installed a new virus program (which I had not) but also mentioned something about spam mail. I never thought about spam and I had installed spambayes. I checked and sure enough, the pre-due notification was in a folder spambayes called "junk suspects." I believe I have trained it correctly now so that I will receive future notifications. (I will also check my due date next time) I apologize for this inconvenience since it was clearly my software and not yours. Thank you again for your assistance.

AADL Reply: We do continue to send the advance date due notices. In investigating your situation we found that we had a problem with an email server during the time frame that an advance date due notice would have been sent to you. Some of the notices were dropped from the mail queue and not sent, but we are unable to ascertain exactly which notices did not get sent; but based on the evidence we believe this is what happened in your case since you successfully received other notices. The notices are only sent as a courtesy, and I always suggest that patrons use an alternative method to track due dates as email is not always 100% reliable as this instance proves. I checked your account for any resulting overdue fines that may have arisen from this situation as I would have marked them paid, but I didn't see any on your card. If you already paid them then let me know, and I'll send you a refund slip. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
