Patron Comment: The ramp at the entrance to the downown library needs to be longer + less steep in order to adequately serve all wheelchair users. I assume that the slope of the current ramp meets ADA requirements but those requirements are not always the best accommodation for a particular site. I have seen someone struggle to get up that ramp in a manual wheelchair. There is plenty of room to extend the ramp along the front of the building thereby reducing the slope + still have a wide expanse of steps. Please consider this in the renovation plans.

AADL Reply: Thank you for the customer service card that you recently submitted suggesting changes to the Handicapped ramp and railing at the Downtown Library. The Library will take your suggestions into consideration at the time the building is renovated. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Patron Comment: Hi, I just have a question. Is there a way to find on the web site all the books on cd, not just the new books on cd, which is one of the categories on the left bar? Thanks.

AADL Reply: Thank you for your inquiry. There is a way to retrieve a complete listing of Books on CD, although it is in a difference format from our website listings of new materials. For a complete list of Books on CD you will need to perform a call number search. To do this, click the Search the Catalog button on the top left-hand portion of our homepage. On the Search the Catalog page, scroll down to the bottom and click on the For Numeric Searches button. Type Books on CD (no quotation marks) in the text box provided and hit the Call Number button. This will retrieve a list all of our books on CD beginning with non-fiction titles in numerical order, followed by fiction titles in alphabetical order by title. If you wish to skip the non-fiction titles, use Books on CD Fiction (no quotations marks) as your call number search instead. I hope this helps. If you require further assistance, please dont hesitate to contact our Reference Desk at 327-4525 and one of the staff will be happy to walk you through the process.

Patron Comment: When my younger child was a toddler, when I'd bring both kids to the library, I'd start to read to the older child and the younger one would go wandering off. I'd constantly have to interrupt the book I was reading to chase after my younger child. I'd have really liked a baby-gated area that would have kept the little one nearby me while I read to the big one. My own kids are past that point now, but I'm on a number of the local Ann Arbor parenting e-mail lists, and I'm constantly hearing other parents wishing for a baby-gated area at the library, for the same reasons. So I figured I'd send in a suggestion, to let you know that this would be very much appreciated by lots of parents. We've found ourselves wishing for this at both the downtown and the Malletts Creek branches of the library. Thanks very much for being there to listen to requests, and thanks for having an amazing library! We live right by the Malletts Creek branch and are there all the time. mom to two little library fans :)

AADL Reply: Thank you for the great feedback on the libraries and what parents need. We have tried to place children's areas away from exterior doors and have added toys and other items that might keep a younger child occupied. We have not seriously considered a gated area, but it is something to keep in mind for the future. I'm glad that you enjoy Malletts Creek!

Patron Comment: Please take better care of the parking lot. I am handicapped and have alot of trouble just walking, with out having to walk on the slippery slush. there is about 3 inches of slush in all the parking spots. Thanks for caring.

AADL Reply: Thank you for the customer service card that you recently submitted regarding slush in the Handicapped parking spaces at our Malletts Creek Branch. During inclement weather, our staff works diligently to maintain safe access to our buildings. I am sorry that you had a difficult time getting to the Library from the parking lot and I will ask our staff to pay more attention to this problem in the future.

Patron Comment: Hello- I wonder why you cannot order audio books or videos on the MiLE library exchange. I find our audio book selection missing some things they have at other libraries but it will not allow the request. Just wondering. it is a bit frustrating to see it listed available and then get the prompt saying I am not allowed to request that item. thanks for your time.

AADL Reply: MiLE is a consortium and operates under guidelines established by a steering committee. It was decided that AV is too fragile to withstand the delivery process, and many libraries did not feel that their AV collections were of a size that could adequately serve their local patrons and fill MiLE requests. There have been a few instances in which AV has been sent via MiLE, but these cases are definitely the exception and not the rule. MiLE policies undergo revision from time to time, and it may be that at some point AV will be treated no differently than book requests, and this is a topic that has been frequently discussed. There are many people, such as you, who would like to see AV included in the MiLE program.

Patron Comment: MLK Holiday resource sheet should be done every year please.

AADL Reply: Thank you for submitting a comment card and for your thoughts regarding an MLK holiday resource sheet. Ann Arbor District Library supports both MLK day and Black History Month through community programs and promotion of pertinent materials. AADL uses our web page, catalog, and print ads purchased in the Ann Arbor News and the Observer to promote our programs. Reviews and information about relevant materials are also available through our website and cycle to support topical themes like MLK day and Black History Month. There is a committee of AADL staff who plan and implement Black History Month activities. I will pass along your comments to this group. Ann Arbor District Library appreciates your time taken in making your concerns know. Thanks so much for your interest

Patron Comment: I made a special trip here to use the computers only to find they can't read the CD that I need to print info from - what's that?

AADL Reply: Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding our public internet computers. We are sorry that you made a trip to the library but were unable to print from your CD. We do not currently offer CD drives at any public stations at the Ann Arbor District Library, primarily because there has been very little demand for the service. In addition, it is very difficult to give users the ability to read from CD-ROMs without them also having the ability to install software. If users can install their own software, it makes it very difficult for us to provide reliable, secure, and fair service to all our users. However, we are always exploring new systems and security approaches, and we will keep your request in mind as we move our network forward. Thanks for your time, and please let us know if you have any further questions.
