Patron Comment: How about putting several more clocks on the walls so we don't have to walk to the front of the building to see what time it is. Not all of us have wrist watches. Thanks.

Regarding: parking

Patron Comment: The Malletts Creek parking lot is frequently full, as it is today. Yet two of the best spots are marked with yellow lines to make them off limits for parking. This is very unreasonable. Please make these spaces available. Response to AADL reply: I have no objection to the circle drop off, the handicapped spaces, or short-term parking for the drop off and pickup of materials. The problem is that the two prime spaces that you apparently intend as short-term parking for the drop off and pickup of materials are perceived by some people (certainly by me) as "no parking" spaces. They have diagonal yellow lines painted on the space and no indication that they are available for short-term parking. During the visit when I filled out the comment card, I could have been in and out of the library in less than 5 minutes had I not filled out the comment card. But I still ended up parking on the street, about 100 feet from the entrance to the library parking lot, because I did not realize that you allowed parking in the two empty spaces with diagonal yellow lines painted on them. I suggest that the library install two signs, one for each of these spaces, saying "5 minute parking only." Then, these two prime spaces won't be left vacant all the time, wasting them.

AADL Reply: Thank you for contacting the Ann Arbor District Library concerning the parking spaces at the Malletts Creek Branch. I apologize if the number and the location of the spaces at the Branch are not adequate to meet your needs. We had a small space to work with and wanted very much to accommodate several objectives in our parking lot. We feel we needed a circle drop off for handicap persons, children, and general convenience in bad weather, pull up short-term parking for the drop off and pick up of materials and designated handicap spaces. We were able to meet all three objectives, and have one more handicap space than is required by the City. I do realize that these efforts are still not considered enough by all our patrons. However, we do not plan at this time to add additional handicap spaces or change the locations of the current spaces in the lot at Malletts Creek. Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. Second reply: Thank you for clarifying your suggestion about the parking lot at the Malletts Creek branch. This is certainly a suggestion we will consider for the future.

Patron Comment: Use color! Too bland & boring!

AADL Reply: Thank you for letting me know that you find Malletts Creek lacking in color. The building's interiors were a conscious choice made by the architect and the library staff to maximize the effect of the natural light and to make a small space seem spacious. We had hoped that the art work by Gerry Kamrowski combined with the changing exhibits would provide color and vibrancy to the space. I am sorry if you do not find this to be true. Thank you again for taking the time to share your opinion about Malletts Creek.

Patron Comment: Play group is wonderful & my daughter is enjoying. She wants more days. So if you can increase from 1 to 3 day a week.

AADL Reply: Thank you for your comment card asking that we offer our baby play groups three times per week. I appreciate your compliments about this program, and am glad that your family enjoys your time at the library. Currently, the baby play groups are offered four times a week: Wednesday mornings at our Northeast branch, Thursdays in the morning at our West branch, Thursdays in the evening at Malletts Creek, and Friday mornings in the Youth department at our Downtown library. During the summer, our Downtown Friday session will take place on Saturday mornings. I hope that this information will allow you to bring your daughter to more of our baby programs and socialize with other parents and babies. Thank you again for contacting us.

Patron Comment: A number of us at baby play group tonight were discussing the fact that there will be no play group for 3 weeks. We were wondering on the "off" weeks whether we could still get together to play. We would be happy to clean up. These nights are very valuable to us.

AADL Reply: Thank you for your recent comment card regarding storytime breaks and your request that the baby play groups run continuously. The breaks between programming sessions allow our children's librarians to perform other job duties, including cleaning toys, ordering books and materials, conducting school/daycare tours and visits, performing other outreach in the community, and planning for future programming sessions. We have found over the years that the breaks allow our children's librarians to complete work that they cannot otherwise complete during storytime sessions, and provide them with a respite to gear up for the next session. As with any of the Malletts Creek meeting rooms, the public is welcome to gather in them on their own as long as they are not disruptive to library business and no other programs are scheduled; however, we are unable to provide support or room set-up for impromptu gatherings. While I understand your desire to run out children's programs continuously, and appreciate your compliments about our baby play groups in particular, we have no plans at this time to do so. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Patron Comment: Beautiful new well updated equipment. Clean looking - not handicap friendly. Parking terrible - first thing mornings or afternoons even - not enough - not convenient - even for handicapped.
