Pleasing and interesting submitted by Diananana on July 21, 2023, 8:52pm The liner notes I found online for this album say it is "a distillation of the preludes from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suites. Following each prelude is an arrangement for solo cello, voice, and string orchestra." The featured musician is Italian cellist Vito Paternoster. The vocalist is soprano Patrizia Pace. Though probably known to musicians, I did not know before that the second track, Ave Maria, is a "collaboration" between J.S. Bach and Charles-François Gounod. They were not contemporaries. Gounod layered his melody over the Bach's Prelude I, and added the words some seven years later. Each arrangement on this album is based upon the prelude that precedes it. I was unable to discover what composer or composers are responsible for the other arrangements. Perhaps a later reviewer might be able to fill in those details. It was pleasing and interesting to listen to the themes of the preludes repeated in the arrangements.
