COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Story of an Opera Singer submitted by dicencal on July 30, 2016, 5:40pm This is an absorbing story of a young woman's development into an opera singer. She is born in a large family, and her talent could easily have been overlooked if others outside of the family hadn't recognized it. The arc of the narrative doesn't quite work, but it's an interesting story.

Not Cather's best submitted by redwood on July 20, 2022, 8:26am Certainly my least favorite of the prairie novels, behind My Antonia and O Pioneers!—perhaps because this has the least prairie. Thea Kronborg, an aspiring musician, starts out in Colorado but ranges as far as Chicago, New York, Dresden in pursuit of her art. It’s easy to see pieces of Cather’s other novels here, the kinds of interracial preoccupation that come more to the forefront in her later work
