Experimental Jazz submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:28pm This album consists primarily of a single track, about half an hour in length. Though it is most definitely free jazz, Sanders and his band use some recurring motifs throughout and the whole thing hangs together pretty well (shockingly well for this type of music). The style feels somewhat unique, incorporating African-inspired rhythms and percussion instruments, over-blowing techniques on the saxophone, and occasional lyrics and scat vocals. I wasn’t a huge fan of this, personally, but it isn’t deliberately off-putting and it does have some interesting nuances; if nothing else, it offers fuel for thought and inspires some reflection.
