COMMUNITY REVIEWS

It's better than the prequels submitted by ADunn on June 21, 2016, 5:31am I think its a good movie, but it was just hyped up so much. Admittedly I'm not the biggest Star Wars fans, so maybe it didn't resonate with me as much. It just seemed so predictable.

AMAZING submitted by catgirl12 on June 22, 2016, 9:21am i used to think Star Wars was "Meh" but after seeing i this i became obsessed.
its great.

Excellent submitted by steveiew on June 24, 2016, 2:06pm Excellent sequel to the series.

The Force Awakens submitted by SBNB on June 30, 2016, 2:25pm Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. I liked it and it was fun seeing the story continue, but overall, I was kind of bored.

Good submitted by DL on July 14, 2016, 1:18pm Meeting new characters both human and droids in the beginning was good but seeing the old characters from the other films was great.

Star Wars submitted by staceylbrockman on July 16, 2016, 1:26pm A great addition to the series

The Story Continues submitted by Meginator on August 14, 2017, 3:05pm The Force Awakens is an excellent next installment of the central Star Wars narrative line and (for me) lived up to its hype and expectations even if it is, at times, a rehashing of A New Hope. The new crop of heroes and antagonists are easy to root for and against and portrayed with surprising nuance for this film; they all fit neatly in to the Star Wars universe but also bring something new to the table. Some of the plot points are predictable, sure, even outside of a Star Wars context, but this is a big, fun action film that actually has some thematic depth. Star Wars seems to be headed in an interesting direction and I can't wait to see where these new characters lead us.

Yes! submitted by Rumshaker13 on June 20, 2018, 9:12pm Another great start to the new trilogy

Great movie to bring back star wars submitted by tcrbondy on June 23, 2018, 8:16pm Although similar in many respects to the original new hope, this movie has great new characters entering into the history and lore of the jedi and the battle between good and evil wielding the power and balance the force brings. Beautiful aesthetics and music

Okay submitted by zmclaugh on August 1, 2018, 5:10pm An okay movie, with too many callbacks to the original.

BOOOOOOOOOOORING! submitted by bookworms on August 10, 2018, 10:30pm What a horrible disappointment! This was a real letdown. The characters were a little bleh, and the new villain, Kylo Ren, was just the worst. The only good thing about this movie was the quality and effects. It looked very good, but nothing could make up for the stale plot.

One question, why does Kylo Ren have Darth Vader's helmet? Did someone retrieve it from the exploding death Star? Oh, and why is Poe Dameron so young? Wasn't he Luke's pilot buddy from a new hope? Shouldn't he be as old as Luke? Just a few thoughts...

Great movie! submitted by Xris on August 29, 2018, 10:17pm The Empire has a lot more Nazi-ish look in this movie. Love seeing the new cast interacting with the original cast!!

Carrie Fisher submitted by jduffy12 on August 31, 2018, 10:56pm She was good in this

Superbgood submitted by pepemama on July 20, 2019, 9:31am Great sequel

awesome! submitted by yufamily on August 25, 2019, 7:34pm A super cast and crew

Entertaining, as it should be submitted by FordAlpha on August 27, 2019, 10:28pm "The Force Awakens" is as entertaining and silly as a "Star Wars" movie should be. I was bothered, though, that space travel in this movie doesn't seem to take any time at all. In the original trilogy, there was at least some sense that it takes time to get from point A to point B. Here, everybody seems to be able to go from any point in the galaxy to any other point pretty much instantly. So why bother with maps at all?! The whole "missing piece of a map" idea doesn't make any sense. But it doesn't need to make sense. It just needs to be fun, and this movie is fun.

Oof submitted by maywang on June 18, 2020, 11:33am I personally dislike this one. The previous six movies were so good... then came this flopper. Seven through nine were a disappointment. Except for the part where Han and Kylo...

Best of the new batch submitted by Will O on August 26, 2020, 9:37am To say this is the best of the sequel trilogy may sound like faint praise but this is actually a very solid and enjoyable movie.
The three new folks are all introduced pretty well and Rey and Finn's character arcs are well done. The chemistry between Rey and Finn & Finn and Poe is good and they all seem like they like each other. Rey's introduction is especially well done and you get a good sense of her day to day life and struggle which puts the viewer on her side almost right away. I like that she isn't a helpless damsel and either saves herself or others multiple times. Also the fact that a new Star Wars movie would cast as its three leads a woman and two men of color is great.
Harrison Ford actually looks like he's having a good time which I haven't seen from him in at least two decades.
I will admit there is a soft reboot/"really, another super weapon?" feel to it and the Rathtars scene is too long and a bit dumb which I suspect is J.J.'s doing but the rest of the movie's plot is so well done that I can forgive it for a bit of a retread and occasional silliness.
J.J. does a good job visually especially when it comes to the starfighter scenes and the battles. Realy good rhythm and movement that keeps things exciting without making me feel lost as a viewer which seems to be the default in most movies nowadays "Just shake the shit out of the camera so the audiance feels like they're there"
Overall it set the bar pretty high for the sequels only to have it lowered before being dropped completely in the following movies.

Enjoyable submitted by RebeccaWittekindt on August 29, 2020, 10:42am I didn’t go crazy for this movie, but I definitely enjoyed it. I definitely liked it better than episode 8, though it had its weaknesses. I liked Han Solo calling out the troupe of every one of these giant, world-destroying super weapons has an Achilles heel for some reason.

Good submitted by Abbie D. on August 21, 2022, 4:35pm I liked this movie!!!
