Great Book About Great Play submitted by generic username on June 17, 2017, 8:11pm This book contains both the complete libretto of the play "Hamilton" and interesting comments about the creation of the play and associated subjects. After checking the book out from the Ann Arbor District Library I was so impressed I purchased a copy to keep.

Great Book submitted by ValerieL on July 3, 2017, 7:17pm This is a wonderful compilation of the full libretto and little tidbits about the creation of the musical and some behind-the-scenes looks at things. I'm a huge fan of the musical and I think this is a wonderful look at it from the stand point of the lyrics and the behind-the-scenes look. Enjoy!

Best Book of the Year! submitted by zixyxuan on July 12, 2017, 4:30pm WOW! This book was so spectacular that it left my speechless after I finished it (at 3 am in the morning).

First of all, the book is beautifully made. The photos on each of the pages display the enormity of the project and how everybody in both the production and cast was involved in spinning Lin's story together. I actually really REALLY liked the layout of the book and how it was designed like an archaic 1800's document. Ahhhhh!!! So great!

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed Lin's annotations and thoughts on all the songs in the musical, Jeremy McCarter's essays absolutely destroyed me. I think he really brought another dimension to all of the cast and production members. I cried so much from reading Oskar's tragedy while listening to "Stay Alive" that I couldn't even see the words on the pages clearly. I also really appreciated how much Lin formulated the ending to focus on how Eliza took over in spreading and developing Alexander Hamilton's legacies. She really took a step from just being known as one of the Schuyler sisters/Angelica's sister and grow into her own person with her own set of accomplishments, which is very progressive for her time period.

This book is incredible, stunning, and brilliantly created. Go and read it now!

Beautiful summary of a beautiful musical! submitted by mariekakaye on June 16, 2018, 6:48pm This is a great book - well designed and helps you relive the musical whenever you want. I love learning about how it all started and I especially love being able to read the lyrics to all the songs. A must read for any Hamilton fan!

Why I love the Hamilton lobretto. submitted by Family_Coffman on June 17, 2018, 4:20pm This book is so fun, my family and I downloaded the Hamilton soundtrack on our Ipod touch, and listened to it all the time. At first, I hated it and called it "depressing from the first song" but then we bought this AMAZING book and I immediately fell in love with Hamilton, Eliza, Burr, Angelica, Washington, Jefferson, Laffeyate, Mulligan, Laurens, and everyone else. Now, I beg to listen to it every day, and once even snuck our Ipod touch under my pillow while I was reading the Lobretto.

I loved Hamilton, sure, but not half as much as I did when I started reading the footnotes and trying to memorize the words. It is so interesting and I love Hamilton ten times more.

Now, my sister's greatest fear is that she'll get kicked out of the theater because she can't help but sing along when we see it for the first time in November!!

Great Companion submitted by timdufresne on July 10, 2018, 1:23pm The essays and annotations delight and enhance the listening to this fantastic musical.

Excellent exploration of music and theater craft submitted by mowjac on August 17, 2018, 8:20am Not only is this the perfect companion volume to your enjoyment of the play or the soundtrack, it is so much more: behind the scenes stories of how the music and choreography came together, a primer on hip hop rhyming, an up close look at casting and the individual members of the cast, an in depth exploration of how art is made and the artistic process. I have even more admiration of Lin after reading this book and a greater appreciation of the smash hit that is Hamilton.
