Well-deserved Oscar nods submitted by wendylv on August 1, 2016, 10:10am Wow! Back in Oscar season, this movie did not sound that interesting to me and now I see what all the buzz was about. In fact, I would have given it a few more nominations and/or wins. (Yes, Steve Carrell.) This movie defies any one category and everything from casting, to photography to editing to plot all work together to tell the funny and tragic (unbelievably) true story of the mortgage bond collapse of 2007. It's hard to believe the director of "Anchorman" and "Anchorman 2" pulled this off. You'll want to watch this twice and then watch all the bonus material. It's just that good.

The Big Short submitted by SBNB on August 13, 2016, 7:12pm Excellent look into the causes of the economic crash of 2008. The story was engaging and the banking terminology was explained as the movie moved along. Great movie. I only wish the "just kidding" ending were the true ending. It's horrible how corrupt the system is in this country.

the big short submitted by pamhockey25 on August 19, 2016, 4:16pm This details the collapse of the housing market, and the people who figured out what was going on, and who bet against the banks and ended up making a lot of money. The acting was fantastic, and I enjoyed how they explained the concepts of what was going on, but I will have to watch this one more than once to understand everything that was going on.
