Added to our family's collection submitted by ERGeeting on June 20, 2019, 9:15pm After borrowing this book from the library we decided to purchase it to add to our family's collection. My 2 & 4 year olds enjoy it year round!
An Uncomplicated Version of the Holiday submitted by Meginator on July 1, 2023, 5:22pm This book uses a consistent rhythm and rhyme scheme to tell the story of a 19th-century American family’s Thanksgiving feast, although nothing aside from the (regrettable) inclusion of pilgrim hat decorations specifically ties the book to a specific holiday. Using a lot of repetition and a singsong poetic meter, the book shows how each member of the family contributes to the meal and to the celebration. The illustrations have a bit of a historical feel to them that pairs well with the book’s strong emphasis on tradition, and you can sense the family’s love for one another (and for the holiday) through the pictures. Although it lacks any context about the holiday’s origins, this is a straightforward depiction of the family gatherings that generally sit at the core of Thanksgiving celebrations that offers some nice connections between the past and the present.
