"A story by the author of Gone girl."
"Originally published in the anthology Rogues [as 'What do you do?'] ... by Bantam Books ... in 2014"--Title page verso.
"A canny young woman is struggling to survive by perpetrating various levels of mostly harmless fraud. On a rainy April morning, she is reading auras at Spiritual Palms when Susan Burke walks in. A keen observer of human behavior, our unnamed narrator immediately diagnoses beautiful, rich Susan as an unhappy woman eager to give her lovely life a drama injection. However, when the 'psychic' visits the eerie Victorian home that has been the source of Susan's terror and grief, she realizes she may not have to pretend to believe in ghosts anymore"--Dust jacket flap.

64 pages of twists and turns! submitted by mickplu on July 10, 2018, 12:43pm Wow! This is 64 pages of twists and turns that left me almost dizzy near the end. Very suspenseful and I actually liked it better than Gone Girl. She ends without totally wrapping things up so it begs for a sequel.

Thrilling But Not Like Her Other Works submitted by dntanzer on August 30, 2018, 11:33am This was an interesting and sometimes thrilling short story written by Gillian Flynn. I've read most of Flynn's work and have loved everything I've read from her. This thriller was not exactly like her other pieces - it's dark, but not nearly as dark as her novels. It was pretty thrilling, but fell a bit flat for me in the last 10 or so pages. Definitely better than most short stories I've read though! Recommending this to fans of Flynn's other works.

Too short submitted by himaja2 on June 20, 2022, 4:39pm Interesting and almost too short, but I can see why. Really makes the reader agonize over all the possibilities
