Tons of Pop-Punk Talent submitted by Meginator on August 25, 2019, 1:11pm 5SOS really came into their own while writing and recording this album: the playful spirit remains but the music and lyrics are slightly more sophisticated, relying less on a shock factor and more on actual depth. The first few tracks, which are the best on the album, consist of upbeat pop-punk with catchy hooks; these give way to a second half of ballads that are effective but a little more difficult to distinguish from one another. Still, the highlights are as good as any comparable pop-punk from the period, and it’s a mistake to write the group off; they have legitimate talent and definitely made the most of it with these tracks.
