This film injects a fairly standard man-against-the-world action plotline with the humor of a stoner comedy, and the result is a fun popcorn flick that knows precisely what it is and delivers perfectly on its premise. The casting is terrific, with Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, and the supporting cast delivering nuanced performances that give the film real emotional heft amidst a barrage of jokes and inventive action sequences that give new meaning to several everyday household products. The plot has enough twists and turns to be exciting throughout without overcomplicating things, and frankly it’s a relief to watch a modern action film that doesn’t unnecessarily try to outwit the viewer; the fun in this film lies in its execution, and a little predictability actually enhanced my viewing experience. This film is way better than I expected it to be, and I recommend it for something just a little bit different in the action genre.
