Meru submitted by yenkong on July 2, 2017, 11:57am One of the best documentaries I have ever seen.

Conquering the Shark's Fin submitted by Meginator on July 3, 2017, 9:03pm This is a very interesting documentary about a trio of climbers who attempted to summit the Shark's Fin route on Himalayan mountain Meru in 2008 and 2011. The footage is primarily a mixture of interviews and firsthand footage from the climbs, with Jon Krakauer's interviews acting as a narrator of sorts. I appreciated the decision to let the climbers mostly speak for themselvea; it suits the subject matter well and the resulting intimacy makes up for the moments when the narrative is slightly unclear. The score, too, is very nice and accompanies some beautiful sweeping footage of the mountain. This film offers an alternative glimpse into the world of Alpine climbing than you get from films about better-known peaks and I now have a greater appreciation of the sport. This is well done.
