The YA Romance We Need And Deserve
submitted by lcbuday on August 19, 2018, 1:49pm
"Carry On" is a triumph. While I obviously appreciated the more meta things about it, such as how it stemmed from fictional fanfiction in "Fangirl," I loved this book in its own right. It's masterfully crafted, its creativity and ingenuity balanced with careful, perfect homages to past "chosen one" stories. The characters are just as deep and complicated as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story, and the romance is just as exquisite (perhaps even more so). Ms. Rowell has done a truly marvelous thing in applying her massive talent for realistic fiction so successfully to another genre, making "Carry On" something like the beautiful intersection of two worlds. I loved Rainbow Rowell's conception of magic as words that have become powerful through humanity's use of them. I loved Waterford, both as an homage to the literary wizarding school and as the perfect backdrop for the story. Most of all, I loved the characters-- tireless, selfless, hilarious Penelope, Agatha and her dreams of normalcy, the Mage and the way his carefully constructed world falls apart. I loved Simon and Baz. The hero and the villain, the Chose One and the Prince of Darkness-- in the end just two boys. Two incredibly important boys who I will cherish forever.
So, A+, Rainbow Rowell. Arguably your best work yet, certainly my favorite.
Carry on submitted by lstorc on July 28, 2019, 10:48pm Carry on is enjoyable with relatable characters. It demonstrates that thin line between love and hate.
Stunning

If the greatest author of all time was told to take Harry Potter and smash it into Twilight and create a novel that was 80% dialogue and with a maximum of ten characters, each with a totally complete personality, and the right amount of gayness (a lot) Rainbow Rowell's Carry On would be the result.
This action-packed fantasy romance is a can't-put-down novel you wont soon forget. And also the reason that the morning after I read it, my teachers kept wondering why I looked exhausted yet elated, and kept mumbling something about fire and vampires and kissing and Simon Snow.
Great enemies to lovers!! submitted by Mairead Seyfarth on June 18, 2022, 11:19am I don't normally stick around for slow burns but this book makes it totally worth it! A great build-up of tension too!
