nice middle grade graphic novel submitted by camelsamba on July 17, 2016, 10:12pm Sunny is spending the summer in Florida with her grandfather (who lives in a retirement community). She's a bit bored, although she makes a friend who introduces her to the joy of comic books. Over the course of the story, there are a few flashback scenes that show you how she ended up there. Things all come to a head and she is able to confront the family secret, her grandpa's 'secret' (hidden cigarettes), and her secret misery.

Great for Teachers submitted by krathje on August 24, 2016, 7:17am This graphic novel gives a glimpse of the struggle kids face when a sibling deals with substance abuse. The main character finds a way to communicate her distress to her grandfather while visiting him over the summer. Serious subject matter handled well.

Historic Fiction is FUN submitted by sdunav on June 17, 2017, 11:40am Delightful story about a 10 year old who visits her grandfather in a senior community in Florida the summer of 1976. There's just so much packed into this little book - sibling problems, class and immigrants, comic books, the Bicentennial, the problems of sofa-beds, alligators - I loved it.
