Big Kids (and Parents) Will Enjoy the Suspense submitted by kirterry on June 21, 2022, 8:42pm The 'Tales from Deckawoo Drive' series continues to be a delight. The books take a deeper dive into some of the characters we first met in the Mercy Watson books, making them enjoyable read alouds for middle grade folks. This one covers some heavy subjects -- ghosts, death, career ambition, anxiety -- but with DiCamillo's trademark humor mixed in. And of course it ends with everyone eating toast with a great deal of butter!
Ghost Raccoon submitted by tmkenn on July 2, 2022, 11:16pm This was an interesting one, honestly kind of difficult for my kids to wrap their heads around. At one point they asked if it was a twist to the story and it wasn't. Hopefully with minimal spoilers basically the character was hallucinating. My kids thought it was a happy moment and it wasn't. We talked after about how one mistake or failure doesn't change who you are as a person, so that was a good learning moment. I wouldn't pick this book up and read it twice though.
