COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Live in Paris submitted by FordAlpha on August 11, 2019, 10:08pm This album, the audio recording from a concert that was televised live from Paris (you can also find the concert documented on DVD), effectively showcases the genius of Thelonious Monk at the height of his career. He's playing with a quartet of young but skilled jazzmen from the States, and they're swinging together effortlessly deep into a lengthy European tour. My favorite track on the album is "Nutty", when the legendary Philly Joe Jones, who was living in Paris at the time, steps in on drums. The interplay between Monk's piano and Philly Joe's snare is incredible. There are also some solo piano tracks where Monk brings out a bit of an old-fashioned Tin Pan Alley sound.
