The good. The evil. The beginning. When rookie Gotham City detective James Gordon, dedicated to restoring his crime-ridden metropolis back to its decent and illustrious past, catches the case of a murdered socialite couple, he promises their shattered, surviving son Bruce Wayne he'll find their killer. It is an obligation and an obsession that will cost him dearly, and set the stage for the gritty and exciting world of Gotham.

The Good, The Bad, and The Gotham submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on August 7, 2015, 11:15pm This show was all over the place. There were some great things, some quite good aspects, some serviceable things, and then there was stuff that was just plain awful - often all within a single episode.

Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock netted me from the beginning. Robin Lord Taylor had an undeniably breakout performance as Penguin. And I came to love Jada Pinkett Smith as glamorous gangster Fish Mooney, especially once I embraced how much she stood out against grim Gordon and gritty Gotham. (Holy alliteration, Batman!)

But it all, including the best characters, suffered from inconsistency in tone, a lot of terrible dialogue, and some very bizarre and illogical storytelling. Yes, it's a comic book show, but most of the time it couldn't get the gim and gritty balanced with the theatrical and camp. For a little while it did have that balance, but it couldn't maintain it.

That said, I kept watching. And not hate-watching, though there was a lot of snarky commentary delivered out of self-preservation. But I'll be watching season 2 when it starts, so there's that to consider.

Fun look at Bruce Wayne's Childhood submitted by SaraP on August 7, 2022, 7:03am This series presents an in depth look into the childhood of Bruce Wayne s he begins his long road towards becoming Batman. It also shows Gotham City in the crime-filled days leading up to Batman's debut.
