Constance Kopp doesn't quite fit the mold. She towers over most men, has no interest in marriage or domestic affairs, and has been isolated from the world since a family secret sent her and her sisters into hiding fifteen years ago. One day a belligerent and powerful silk factory owner runs down their buggy, and a dispute over damages turns into a war of bricks, bullets, and threats as he unleashes his gang on their family farm. When the sheriff enlists her help in convicting the men, Constance is forced to confront her past and defend her family -- and she does it in a way that few women of 1914 would have dared. Based on the true story of one of America's first female deputy sheriffs.

A Fun Read submitted by suttonp on July 4, 2016, 11:32am This book, based on fact, was a very fun read. The story is well crafted to keep you involved and rooting for the heroine. Highly recommended.

Delightful! submitted by sfrantom on July 26, 2016, 10:16am This was an entertaining book, especially knowing it's based on a true story. Loved the female lead character, and the writing is well done!

A lot of fun submitted by emilyb308 on July 21, 2019, 4:53pm I have to admit, I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. The characterization was very well done. Each of the Kopp sisters felt like a unique individual who made realistic choices and grew accordingly. Also, the narrative structure was really solid. The plot kicks off straight away, and Constance’s backstory is skillfully woven into the development of the main storyline. My only complaints are that there were no people of color mentioned, and that the one Jewish character wasn't portrayed as a very good person. Hopefully this will be addressed/remedied in future books in the series.

I'd recomend it to a friend submitted by Zekicmom on August 11, 2019, 11:41am Warning - this is a hard book to put down. I got sucked in quickly and really wanted to know what would happen. It was only after I finished reading it that I learned the book is based on real people and events. Worth the read.
