COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not Particularly Comprehensive submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 9:56pm This compilation nominally covers 50 years’ worth of country music, but its focus is overwhelmingly recent: the first disc, representing the years 1990-2015, only includes three tracks from the 1990s, of which only one post-dates the decade’s midpoint. Likewise, the second disc, representing 1965-1969, predominantly concerns itself with the 1980s. I would have preferred to see a better chronological spread, but it’s difficult to argue that these tracks don’t offer a good overview of successful country music throughout the years. I was surprised, too, to find that some of the older tracks are just as indistinguishable from contemporary pop and/or rock trends as some of their more recent peers. Though it isn’t quite representative in the way its title indicates, this double album does offer a good entry point to a half-century of excellent country tracks.
