Thomas Cromwell is a brutal blacksmith's son who rises from the ashes of personal disaster and deftly picks his way through a court where 'man is wolf to man.' King Henry VIII is obsessed with protecting the Tudor dynasty by securing his succession with a male heir to the throne. Told from Cromwell's perspective, "Wolf Hall" follows the complex machinations and back room dealings of this pragmatic and accomplished power broker who must serve king and country while dealing with deadly political intrigue, Henry VIII's tempestuous relationship with Anne Boleyn, and the religious upheavals of the Protestant reformation.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Masterpiece tells the story of a fascinating time in British history submitted by doctorfang on August 2, 2015, 6:29pm Wolf Hall is the story of King Henry VIII and one of his chief advisors, Thomas Cromwell. The machinations of the court are fascinating, as Henry VIII desperately seeks an annulment from his first wife, Katharine of Aragon, in order to marry Anne Boleyn. The performances, settings, and costumes are outstanding.

Intelligent good movie. submitted by valentina on June 8, 2016, 10:09am Very good movie, very intelligent. Outstanding actor Mark Rylance playing Thomas Cromwell. Other actors are good too. The plot is familiar of course, from the history, but still it is interesting to watch.

Wolf hall submitted by leenajong on August 23, 2016, 2:21am Interesting movie.

Great adaptation submitted by wellscai on August 10, 2018, 10:16pm The BBC did an excellent job adapting Hilary Mantel's work. Mark Rylance is fantastically cast as Cromwell and deserves every award he received for the roll. Damien Lewis as Henry VIII manages to channel the increasing darkness and instability of the aging king, and I liked Claire Foy's Anne quite a lot. If you liked the books or just like British drama in general, this is definitely worth the watch.
