Minnow Bly, age 17, escapes from the religious cult she's been raised in. But as she's fleeing into the city, a homeless, mentally ill man approaches her, talking Jesus stuff, and she just loses it and starts beating him. So now she's in jail (traded one prison for another) and trying to heal physically and mentally. Meantime, the cult has been burned to the ground and the police kinda think maybe the girl did it. But the story is even stranger than that.
The blurb doesn't really do the book justice. It's poetic and beautiful and parts of it are very dark but it's hopeful at the end.
