Excellent Adaptation submitted by Meginator on August 16, 2017, 2:13pm This version of The Last Five Years comes from the film, itself an adaptation of the original musical by Jason Robert Brown. The whole album is fantastic in concept and execution as it follows a failed relationship from each person's perspective, one moving forward and one moving backward; the only duet occurs, naturally, at the wedding. I was very impressed by how good this album both reflects and reinterprets the spirit of the original, becoming its own entity in the process. Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan are excellent in their roles as Cathy and Jamie and really seem to inhabit their characters. This is an adaptation done right.
