COMMUNITY REVIEWS

More neo-realist than noir submitted by rossorr on August 27, 2015, 9:33am This one is mainly about the daily struggles for existence in post-WWII Italy. It seems like a stretch to categorize it under "noir," although its lead characters do ultimately turn to crime. A blacklisted leftist director turning to a low-budget foreign production to keep working is historically interesting.

It should be mentioned that this transfer's unrestored, warbly soundtrack and the accents of Italian actors speaking English mean the dialog is sometimes hard to follow.
