Based on the memoir by Amy-Jo Albany, it is a compassionate, tender look at the complex relationship between Amy-Jo and her father, legendary jazz musician Joe Albany, a man torn between his musical ambition, his devotion to his teenage daughter, and his suffocating heroin addiction. Set against a sensuously textured 1970s Hollywood, the film beautifully evokes a colorful, seedy world of struggling musicians, artists, and vagabonds.
DVD, region 0, NTSC, widescreen (2.35:1); Dolby Digital 5.1 or stereo.
Contents: Low down.

Two thumbs Up submitted by Beth Manuel on July 16, 2015, 8:38am This compelling film based on the memoir of Amy-Jo Albany was a gem. Not a sparkling, pretty one, but more of a coal-smudged diamond. The seedy underbelly of L.A. is the backdrop of this musically rich film. Elle Fanning was expressive and believable. And wait till you get a load of Flea...it took me a while to realize he was playing Hobbs. I'd like to read the memoir. Good film.

Jazz Pianist submitted by mandevil on September 1, 2020, 9:00pm Does it take suffering to produce great music? A pianist creates great art but causes his family such turmoil.
