When the Imagine Network commissioned a documentary on mermaids, to be filmed from the cruise ship Atargatis, they expected what they had always received before: an assortment of eyewitness reports that proved nothing, some footage that proved even less, and the kind of ratings that only came from peddling imaginary creatures to the masses. They didn't expect actual mermaids. They certainly didn't expect those mermaids to have teeth. This is the story of the Atargatis, lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the bathypelagic zone in the Mariana Trench...and the depths are very good at keeping secrets. Publisher.

Rolling In The Deep - novella submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on August 1, 2016, 5:34am This is a fun, ghoulish, quick read. It's a dark fantasy/horror story that is well-paced and delivers exactly what it promises. The book tells you right at the beginning what the fate of the crew and passengers of the ship Atargatis seems to be, yet the reader is drawn in to the setting and characters like a swimmer diving into clear waters, lulled by some familiar beats and tropes - then truly startled and held in suspense before being stunned again. I wish there were more of it, but it feels perfectly complete as it is.

(Note: Mira Grant is a pen name for Seanan McGuire.)

A quick read for fantasy lovers submitted by dntanzer on August 29, 2019, 8:06am This is a good cross between fantasy and suspense. It's quick and a very interesting idea.
