Nothing better

There are books that change lives. They shape their readers and change lives. This is one of those books.
Harriet is a lonely child raised by a thoroughly old school NYC nanny. With busy parents she spends a lot of time being on her own. Her friends are similar but for different reasons. Each one is a unique person, no child stereotypes here.
Harriet spends her out of school time spying on various people her in neighborhood and recording her thoughts in her journal. She records all her thoughts in her journal--spying or about her classmates. And then the journal goes missing.
There is nothing contrived about how this all resolves. There is no child acting angelic or heroic. No parent saves the day (maybe the nanny a bit). This a story about life, consequences, and growing up.

Touching submitted by O'Eily on July 25, 2019, 4:07pm It was great how when everything seemed bleak, Harriet came back. Nicely written.
