"When I was twenty-five years old, it came to my attention that I had never had a girlfriend. At the time, I was actually under the impression that I was in a relationship, so this bit of news came as something of a shock." Why was [Paralympic ski racer and cancer survivor] Josh still single? To find out, he tracked down the girls he had tried to date since middle school and asked them straight up: what went wrong? The results of Josh's semiscientific, wholly hilarious investigation are captured here: from a disastrous Putt-Putt date involving a backward prosthetic foot, to his introduction to CFD (Close Fast Dancing), to a misguided 'grand gesture' at a Miss America pageant, this story is about looking for love--or at least a girlfriend--in all the wrong places.--From publisher description.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Entitled + misogynistic submitted by changflm on July 6, 2022, 12:20am I liked the book ok (mostly the first third)-- it was funny, honest, and a quick read. But it made me feel super uncomfortable. This book is kind of a perfect example of everyday misogyny. The first half was funny, but then it really just became a repetitive storyline of "here's a pretty girl. She should date me. Why isn't she dating me?? I'm going to end this friendship because she won't date me." He repeatedly suggests that girls are not worthy of friendship (or of anything other than to be his girlfriend) and he has a real sense of entitlement to a girlfriend. It was just kind of creepy and weird- it gave me a gross feeling. I really don't think Sundquist intended it to come off this way, but from reading other reviews, I see that it really did for a lot of people. Just a bummer that this kind of storyline is common and normal enough to be published and acclaimed, and that boys (and girls) are going to read this and think like Josh does about this stuff.

I still found the first part of the book enjoyable. It was just when he started getting obsessive about girls that it began to get weird. It really was funny, though. His writing was good and clever; many of his personal experiences were really relatable and entertaining.
