Good Filler, TERRIBLE Villain Reveal submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:33am This season of Veronica Mars offers an enthralling central mystery with Veronica again at its core, but the villain is revealed too late with far too little in the way of hints and clues provided throughout the season. The explanation offered doesn’t justify the season’s multiple red herrings and feels constructed for maximum shock value rather than flowing naturally from the story. Though the primary season arc is disappointing, the series continues a solid run of mysteries-of-the-week and episodes-long plot arcs for both Veronica and the supporting cast. The character development is stronger overall, but the final part of the season finds Veronica acting in a way that she and other characters know will have lasting repercussions on their relationships...only for everything to go back to normal only one episode later with zero explanation. That kind of short-term writing is really disappointing in a show of such high caliber, and overall this season isn’t quite as strong as the first, though it is still pretty good in the grand scheme of detective shows.
