An almost nearly perfect book
submitted by ppeszter on July 14, 2019, 9:35pm
This book is an almost nearly perfect example of informative cultural-anthropological non-fiction. The half-outsider status of the author (given his marriage to a Dane) helps him to balance objective observations and personal stories, especially in the Danish chapter. Although a voluminous book, it's easy to breeze through the humorous pages. I also appreciated his style of presenting research, citing his conversations with Scandinavian anthropologists and foreign academics.
I wish I could find books like this about other modern cultures or cultural blocks similar to the Scandinavian bunch. Look out for cultural references and TV show recommendations, and you might find a hidden gem of Swedish-Danish entertainment.
