amazing! submitted by manz on November 13, 2014, 11:08am This is an amazing, original film.

It’s a groundbreaking concept and it was truly maginificent to see on the big screen. To watch a precious 5 year old turn into an awkward teen and then into an adult right before our eyes. Normally after a 3 hour film, I’m ready to go. But once we see Mason at age 18 and off on his next adventure… well, I wanted to keep following him.

Instant Classic submitted by markwells on February 15, 2015, 7:44am Watching this family grow really brings the characters to life. This is one of those movies that kinda sticks to you. Filming a movie over a 12 year timespan must have its risks and difficulties but director Linklater appears to have made it work wonderfully. Grade: A.

Not worth the time submitted by bautell on June 15, 2015, 8:19pm It's a novel idea, but the story was dull and shallow.

Boyhood submitted by SBNB on June 19, 2015, 7:51pm It’s good. It’s not action-packed or anything, but it’s a captivating story.

A winner for sure! submitted by tbernth on June 25, 2015, 10:48am This is a fabulous movie. Even though the film is long, I never noticed the time passing. It was so well-done and really pulled at the heart. Such a creative and wonderful way of filming, over the course of many years, you really must see it. It is just beautifully done, definitely worth all the awards it won, it is superb!

waste of time submitted by Jackie77 on July 12, 2015, 8:22pm Terrible movie. Boring storyline and left out alot of things for explanations....leaving many questions unanswered.

Still thinking about it submitted by sara on July 19, 2015, 10:23am I watched it last night and I'm still wondering what happened to some of the characters that passed through Masons's life. I'm in the "liked it" category. One thing this movie did that I likes, was seamlessly pass from year to year rather than announcing"12 months later..."

slow but interesting submitted by LVDS on August 9, 2015, 5:37pm Sometimes I fell asleep....yet good story of boy, though very picked-on by his sister and some of the men in his life....his basically single mom stays strong through some bad choices of husbands and the biological dad is a constant fun encouragement if his life.

Liked It submitted by Beth Manuel on August 18, 2015, 8:22am Yes, there were slow parts at times, but I found the filmmaker's work a treat. To be able to watch Mason and his sister develop from small children to adults is pretty cool. Not something we get to view in film very often. Patrica Arquette's performance was outstanding. I was glad to see it, although 20 minutes could have been cut somewhere, I thought.

Interesting concept submitted by B_Mo on August 23, 2015, 11:14am Interesting concept and lovingly shot but a bit boring. I think Linklater's attempt to portray everyday American life in cinema is admirable but I didn't feel close to any of the characters. The kids in particular felt one dimensional. Ethan Hawke was really the only character who seemed to change through the course of the film.

Great submitted by wgregory on July 3, 2016, 12:11pm Very interesting concept and story.

good submitted by leenajong on August 4, 2017, 2:30pm Pretty interesting the way the movie was made.

Not that great submitted by elepling on August 3, 2018, 6:59pm I like the concept of the movie but not a very interesting storyline and a lot questions left unanswered

an amazingly bold project, but kinda dull, in the end, considering submitted by lisa on August 14, 2018, 2:24pm y'know. i guess it would be hard to make it cohere.

Boyhood submitted by anonymous on June 27, 2019, 9:08pm Ethan Hawke brought his daddy issues out even more in this movie than Pearl Jam does in its music. This was barely tolerable unless you're an entitled person who never practiced what is suggested in therapy.

Good submitted by c_zhang on June 29, 2019, 1:18am It’s good. It’s not action-packed or anything, but it’s a captivating story.

q submitted by GioMuzique on August 5, 2020, 5:51pm concept and story

Great film submitted by StephB on June 11, 2022, 4:52pm What a great concept for a film! When I exited the cinema, I felt that the film (2 hrs, 45 mins) had ended too quickly. Nominated for several academy awards, it lost best picture to Birdman. Time will tell which will endure...

A Must See For Any Parent submitted by jibkidder on July 3, 2022, 11:08am I have to imagine that not being a parent would give you a fundamentally different experience of this film. You just might not have quite the same emotional reaction to the passing of time. Nonetheless, this film is an absolute feat, and one of Linklater's best.
