The Leviathan threat has ended but Dean's miraculous return from Purgatory unsettles his relationship with his brother, especially his friendship with fellow escapee and vampire Benny. Sam is haunted by his 'last-chance' romance with a woman where he finally found something of a normal life. Both Winchesters face shattering choices along with their best chance to strike a deathblow to evil. A Divine Tablet reveals the means to closing the Gates of Hell forever, but the cost may be cataclysmic to them and their angelic ally Castiel. Full of demons, witches, vampires, titans, a fairy, a hellhound, a golem and a toontown terror trip, season eight is Sam and Dean's more horrific journey yet.

Warning: spoilers ahead submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 16, 2019, 2:48pm In this season, the Winchester brothers finally discover the Men of Letters (which actually includes some women, but the name is old-fashioned and therefore sexist) through their paternal grandfather who time-traveled to now. The Men of Letters, as an organization is exactly what the Hunters, the unofficial network of people who kill supernatural beings, need. The Hunters are completely disorganized, have no formal training, and no prepared system to care for the children of hunters who are killed on the job. By contrast, the MoL has chapter houses full of weapons, books on supernatural beings, spells, etc., and other resources. The Winchesters become the new MoL in the United States because a demon killed all the previous MoL members. However, we later learn that the British MoL is still operational and full of great resources to share with their North American cousins... but there are strings attached, we later learn.
While this season is entertaining, it also is terribly anti-climactic, as the brothers end up not completing their objectives, despite paying a great price for their efforts.
