quite fun

Friendship, trust, community, loyalty, family - set against mean girls, the Cold War, McCarthyism, loyalty oaths, and union busting. This book was fun, even if I could see through some of the plot lines. I'm pretty sure my 12yo son would have enjoyed it as well, and might have been more surprised by the twists / resolutions. I'm sure I would have loved this when I was the target audience age - I plowed through Nancy Drew books myself (although not Trixie Belden), and enjoy spy stories.
My only disappointment is that I would have liked to go back and re-read certain sections, which wasn't easy to do using my temporarily-ripped-to-iTunes method. (The giant BOCD database behind iTunes didn't recognize the discs, so I didn't have any kind of chapter markings.) And there were times when I felt like certain details were anachronistic - I probably would have looked them up if I'd had a print edition, so perhaps it is better for my sanity that I did not. And finally, from reading other reviews I learned there was an author's note at the end, but for some reason that did not get read in the BOCD version.
