"Thug Kitchen started their wildly popular web site to inspire people to eat some Goddamn vegetables and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Beloved by Gwyneth Paltrow ("This might be my favorite thing ever") and named Saveur's Best New Food blog of 2013--with half a million Facebook fans and counting--Thug Kitchen wants to show everyone how to take charge of their plates and cook up some real f*cking food. Yeah, plenty of blogs and cookbooks preach about how to eat more kale, why ginger fights inflammation, and how to cook with microgreens and nettles. But they are dull or pretentious as hell--and most people can't afford the hype. Thug Kitchen lives in the real world. In their first cookbook, they're throwing down more than 100 recipes for their best-loved meals, snacks, and sides for beginning cooks to home chefs. (Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos? Pumpkin Chili? Grilled Peach Salsa? Believe that sh*t.) Plus they're going to arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget and go and kick a bunch of ass on your own. This book is an invitation to everyone who wants to do better to elevate their kitchen game. No more ketchup and pizza counting as vegetables. No more drive-thru lines. No more avoiding the produce corner of the supermarket. Sh*t is about to get real. "-- Provided by publisher.

Funny - and also great! submitted by shannonnauts on June 15, 2015, 8:54am This book is hilarious, and fortunately is not ONLY about the gimmick - which is their approach to cooking with an irreverent, potty-mouthed, streetwise attitude.

In general, the tone is refreshing and amusing, though the authors lay it on pretty thick, so it can get old quickly. That said, the recipes are actually phenomenal (try the black lentil tacos!), and everything I've had from here has been great. There are beautiful pictures for every recipe, so you can see what you'll be making. And there's a great variety within the recipes, so something is sure to appeal to everyone.

All recipes in Thug Kitchen are vegan - but if you're a carnivore like me, don't let that dissuade you from checking this out. I didn't miss meat or dairy in any of the recipes I tried, and everything else looked super tasty and appealing in its own right.

Love it submitted by shoshanapursley on July 15, 2015, 10:10am They have great vegan recipes, but the book is not for those easily offended by swear words!

It's vegetarian! submitted by aliciajuly on June 17, 2016, 8:47am When I first got this book, I flipped straight to the recipes and tried four or five before I read the introduction and realized that there's actually no meat in any of these recipes! I wish there were more cookbooks that approached cooking like this one, explaining things that seem difficult in a way that makes them approachable for anyone.

Good recipes submitted by Krystal on June 21, 2016, 3:15pm Don't let the language scare you away. The attitude is fun and the food is healthy and tasty.

Entertaining & Straightforward submitted by aharv on July 29, 2017, 9:54pm Great book-- Entertaining (and filled with profanity), with straightforward directions and information for beginners.

so good submitted by shannonwait on August 3, 2018, 11:17pm The recipes are creative and easy to follow, and the writing is funny. I like that the book uses so many veggies and beans.

Hit or miss recipes submitted by abicoll on July 18, 2019, 5:51pm Some of the recipes in this cookbook are great and are now go-to recipes of mine, such as the beet and quinoa salad and the apple baked beans. However, some of the other recipes did not turn out well at all. I do like how simple the recipes are to follow and how they try to use simple ingredients.

Love the recipes submitted by clk.9123 on August 22, 2022, 7:47pm I’m not a vegan but I’ve used this cookbook for years because it features some truly interesting and delicious recipes. The tortilla soup is my favorite and I use it often, sometimes vegan and sometimes with shredded chicken. It’s great how you can use this as is or build on it with meat if you like.
