Overview

Delay
Early rock music used tape-based delays to produce everything from fast slapback echoes to wild, multiple delays produced by units such as Roland’s Space Echo. Later, in the 1970s, analog units were introduced guitar-pedals-delaythat could produce delays as long as two seconds or more, though the delay signals would lose some high frequencies. The 1980s saw the introduction of the modern digital delay, which could produce a wide range of time-based effects such as chorus, flange, and traditional echo.

From the awesome folks at Sweetwater: Guitar Pedal Buying Guide

Go from crisp "bathroom" slap echoes to epic, Gilmouresque delays with the MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay. Featuring 600ms of delay time with optional modulation, and a three-knob layout that controls Delay, Mix, and Regen. In addition, there are two internal trim pots that offer user-adjustable width and rate control of the modulation for even more tonal options. All done by a completely analog audio path for authentic rich, warm analog delay—made possible only by old-school analog bucket brigade technology. True bypass.
