COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Hmmm... submitted by Kikumatsu97 on June 24, 2015, 5:53pm there are 26 requests on 9 copies of this year old DVD? Amazing. I will be requesting it as well. Update** ROMANTIC!!! so romantic and good, I Love it. I think this movie shows a very natural progression of strengthening from weakness, listening to your heart, a fantastic story with a positive message about those throughout history who made differences in the movement to abolish slavery.

fabulous submitted by Jackie77 on August 30, 2015, 8:47pm Great movie. Heartbreaking that she was treated so differently just because her mother was african american. She was left a fortune in order to make a way for herself upon adulthood.

Great submitted by DL on July 20, 2016, 12:05pm Enjoyed this period film dealing with mixed race and the issue of slavery in England. Romance and British society with all the rules to be followed or to change are part of the story.

Fine submitted by leenajong on July 17, 2017, 8:29pm Quite ok for a romantic movie.

OK submitted by yenkong on July 17, 2017, 8:49pm I am not a big fan but my wife loves it.

belle submitted by avrogers1 on August 16, 2017, 10:11pm This was a pretty good movie. I had heard good things about it and it certainly lived up to them. I really enjoyed it.

Well Done submitted by majean on July 19, 2020, 2:10pm Not being British, perhaps it is not surprising that I had never heard about this woman or this court decision. I loved the characters, and the actors expressed quite a bit with only a gesture. Very interesting point in history.

Belle submitted by poptart887 on August 12, 2020, 8:25am Absolutely wonderful! It's been a while since a film has had an impact on me. This film is about a young mixed girl who goes to live with her uncle. During the film she goes from child to young adult and learns about slavery and discrimination. Durning the film you find out that she's not allowed to dine with her own family for dinner. So sad that her family treats her like that. The court case in the film is unknown to me, however, not surprising since it happened on the other side of the pond. It was good to see that the outcome of the case was against the ship owner. Progress even if just a small step. I enjoyed seeing the actual painting of the girls at the end of the film.
