COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Worth a view submitted by KMLB64 on June 18, 2015, 9:51am Very engaging and romantic. Gwyneth Paltrow's character disguises herself as a man and auditions for Shakespeare's newest work. He soon discovers the truth about her identity, and sparks fly! This film won seven Academy Awards, including best picture.

I saw this movie when it was first released and loved it. When I had a chance to add it to my deliberately small and highly selective video collection, I did.

Unable to watch all of it, largely due to the god-awful, loud musical score, a plague of many movies. submitted by Tassos on March 20, 2021, 8:07pm I had to put this silly movie on MUTE to escape the god-awful,, and very loud (often much louder than the actors talking) musical score. We all are familiar with the damned violins of older movies (and good riddance to them), but more recent movies, many of them, have even worse, intolerable, musical scores. And I don't just mean horror flicks, also movies like this one.

If you watch it, remember my words above and notice how distracting and j ust plain AWFUL this so-called music is.

OK movie submitted by brooksza on July 31, 2022, 3:54pm This wasn't quite as bad as the backlash led me to expect. I thought it was interesting how the movie interweaves references to Shakespeare. And the play in the third act pays off well.

Schlocky score and pretty Oscar-baity feel.

Enjoyable . . . submitted by saleder on July 13, 2023, 3:25pm I enjoyed the performances, and the way competing characters came together to ensure a happy ending. At the end of the day, it's a Hollywood rom-com, so it is what it is, but the quirky characters, setting and costumes made it worth the watch.
