Carol Wall, a white woman living in Middle America, was at a crossroads in her life. Her children were grown; she had overcome illness; her parents were getting older. One day she notices a dark-skinned African man tending her neighbor's yard. Giles Owita bags groceries at the supermarket. He comes from Kenya. And he's very good at gardening. Before long Giles is transforming not only Carol's yard, but her life.

A Little Disappointing submitted by sdunav on July 23, 2016, 11:34am This memoir has everything I thought I wanted - a story of immigrants adapting to a new country, class differences, a woman gaining new understanding of life in her middle age, and gardening. Unfortunately, I never really warmed up to the author, and her views on gardening didn't really interest me very much. It was ok read, but not what I expected.
