COMMUNITY REVIEWS

This is the movie that inspired the Metal Gear Solid franchise. submitted by lmangus on June 25, 2019, 10:38pm Classic Kurt Russell, but with the John Carpenter edgy perfection we love. Entertaining the first time, even better the second.

Sillier than expected but not bad submitted by Will O on August 29, 2020, 3:08pm A better than decent dystopia that reminded me quite a lot of the Mad Max franchise, particularly Beyond Thunderdome which actually came out 4 years after Escape so maybe they stole from each other?
I expected a bit more of a straight up action movie based on everything I'd heard so was a little put off by the meandering plot of Snake just walking around looking for the president.
The tech was hilarious. I love how in 80's movies everything that's 15+ years in the future is just clunky and boxy as all hell. Like they didn't expect things to get any smaller. Of course now any future movies we make are obsessed with us having microchips imbeded inside us which I'm sure will look just as dumb to people in 30 years.
Kurt Russell was obviously excellent and is so much fun to watch. His one liners are great and he has so much lackadaisical charm that it's hard not to have a good time. If it were anyone else in the role this would have been a forgettable B movie but as in most things he's in it gets elevated by his presence.

Good stuff submitted by brooksza on July 25, 2022, 4:10pm Stripped down and brisk futuristic rescue movie. I liked the concept but the storytelling once we get to the rescue is pretty minimal. It's just adventure. And for a short movie I felt like it took a bit too long to get to the meat of the story.

Ernest Borgnine was a very fun character.

It's eerie who close the plane comes to hitting the World Trade Center. Synth score is good.
