Realistic lyricism submitted by kkjammers on July 4, 2021, 7:02pm Herriot's story is a warm, beautifully written account of his early time as a young veterinarian in Yorkshire beginning in 1940. His descriptions of his encounters with townspeople and their animals is a comfort to read. I have great admiration for Herriot's compassion, expertise and perceptions of his relationships with people and other animals. Incredible to learn what a remarkable life this man led. If you prefer apt tellings and heartening accounts of Herriot's experiences, rather than the alarmist and despairing information that inundates us these days, this book is for you.
