Read by Robert Glenister.
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. Quine has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be published, it would ruin lives. That means that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced. When Quine is found brutally murdered, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before.

Great narrator submitted by Sara W on August 21, 2014, 10:03pm The narrator of this audiobook does an amazing job capturing each character's distinctive voice - from Elizabeth Tassell's wheeze to Orlando's plaintive appeals. Strong mystery, very descriptive and well-paced, and engaging right until the end, but the audiobook experience really clinched it for me. Well done.

not my cup of tea submitted by camelsamba on June 22, 2019, 10:43pm The majority of mysteries that I read are of the "cozy" subtype. This is pretty far from a cozy, not just because the main character is an actual detective but also largely due to the means of death and Bombyx mori subplot. Ick. It is tightly plotted, but there were so many aspects that I didn't enjoy - but I did keep listening, so there's that. The narrator is quite masterful at distinguishing most characters from one another.
