Read by the author.
Jimmy Carter describes his personal observations of the conditions and hardships of women around the world. He describes a trip in Africa with Bill Gates, Sr. and his wife, where they are appalled by visits to enormous brothels. He tells how he joined Nelson Mandela to plead for an end to South Africa's practice of outlawing treatments to protect babies from AIDS-infected mothers. Throughout, Carter reports on observations of women activists and workers of The Carter Center.

Decent content, terrible diction by author submitted by gurdas on May 16, 2017, 6:39am The content is decent and seems like a good read. However, the audio version is plain sloppy and I gave up after listening to the first two (out of 6) CDs. Jimmy Carter has terrible diction, he has a strong Southern drawl accent and chews up words towards the end of sentences. Often, he is speaking way too fast as if trying to compress each sentence in the shortest time possible. I almost thought of using a stopwatch and posting some results here, but decided I can make better use of my time. What good is an audio book if the author is incomprehensible? Would you read a book written in an author's own handwriting if s/he had terrible handwriting? I cannot fathom why the audiobook producers did not avail the services of a professional book reader. Sometimes an author can do a decent job of reading his own book, such as Malcolm Gladwell in Blink, but even that is not the same high quality as the reading from a professional trained in diction.

Jimmy Carter reading his book is a disservice to himself. It makes his audiobook inaccessible to anyone unwilling to suffer through a bad production.
