She's weak and always thinking about makeup or hating girls prettier than her. There's two guys that she LOOVVVVEEESSSS. They're both creepers and not good love interests. One tries to sexual assault her THREE TIMES and she doesn't know what to do all three times. She even goes back trusting him after that.... Stupid. This book perpetuates rape culture. She acts like the victim and doesn't do anything about it. The author really needed to make a point. Not a good book.

ok book submitted by emljas on July 30, 2015, 5:34pm I agree the book is similar to Hunger Games in that there is a competition, and there is an added component of magical animals. The book's main character is an average teen with no special powers, but she still tries to survive. While I don't feel this book is as well written as some other comparable books, I also remind myself that this is meant for a teen or preteen audience. There is little violence, a verging romance and confused feelings. My family thought it was pretty good and we are continuing on to the next book in the series.
